ICELAND

We got married in 2015 and had talked a bit about going to Iceland for our honeymoon, but at that time Iceland had erupted with photographers, instagramers, etc and we really didn’t want to deal with that kind of crowd. Fast forward to 2023 and Iceland was still very much on our list of places to visit. One afternoon without a lot of research we booked flights, and over the next few months we solidified the rest of the plans, and in August of 2023, 8 years later we finally went. We chose late august to avoid much of the summer tourism crowds, and even though there were still quite a few, the size of the place spreads them out. The more touristy areas were still pretty busy, but manageable, and though we missed out on a few things, like Puffin viewing, we had an amazing time. So much so that even though we’re not quite in the planning stages yet, a much longer trip back in on the books.

Any of you that know me, know I’m usually not without a few cameras at any given time, but not for this trip. At the last minute I took the Leica out of the bag and everything that goes with it, grabbed an action cam, my iPhone, a battery bank, and closed up the gear bag……..Some of these photos are mine and some are Lauras, but all were taken just on a phone camera (2 iPhone 12 Pros). Next time the Leica is going, not even a doubt, but it was reassuring to know I could do it all with my phone if needed. I had planned to use the phone for video at least anyway, now it was just doing quadruple duty, Phone, Camera, Video Camera, Maps and routing. Having a dedicated camera would have been nice but having just the phone was very convienent.

I’ve not fully edited the video I shot during the trip, but a brief 3-4 minute high paced overview of it can be found on YouTube HERE if you’re interested.
